MIRA Floors wins Better Business Bureau Marketplace Excellence Award!

Better Business Bureau Torch Awards

On October 24, 2013 at the Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) Torch Awards, Mira Floors was selected as winner of the Marketplace Excellence award – medium category. The BBB Torch Awards is one of the highest achievements in the business community, showcasing how good business practices can help to build better communities.

The Marketplace Excellence Award is presented to a BBB accredited business in recognition of its superior commitment to exceptional standards for its customers, stakeholders and community. Award recipients are selected by an independent committee after an in-depth application process.

“We are honoured to receive the BBB’s Marketplace Excellence award,” said Kevin Bergstresser as he accepted the award on behalf of the MIRA Floors team. “We have been members with the BBB since day one and the main reason is the values the BBB stands for – honesty, ethics, and trustworthiness. We have always strived to build a business focused on those values.”

In his speech, he went on to thank the office team who were all present at the event. “This award celebrates our team’s dedication. The current core team is a big reason why we won this award and continue to grow as a business”

Here are a few photos of Kevin accepting the award and the whole team at the award ceremony.

Servant’s Anonymous Society Flooring Makeover

Looking for a worthwhile cause to partner with? Here’s one we just helped out with!

Servants Anonymous Society is a local society designed as an original self-help approach to recovery for female youth who have been or are at risk of being homeless or sexually exploited. The program is run by a team of just two office staff and a group of dedicated volunteers. Their hard work and commitment each day changes the lives of young women.

The society had been donated new vinyl flooring to replace the carpet in the Arts and Crafts room at the ASK Centre of Learning  but lacked the skilled labour to install it. When the Mira team found out about their need for flooring install, we were happy to donate our time to help out. We had a vinyl install crew come in to remove the carpet, prep the subfloor, and install the vinyl – all in a day

How you can help too!
SAS does not receive any money from the government. All their support is from private donors, businesses, and their two annual fundraisers. There are two ways you can help SAS reach their fundraising goals:

  1. In-kind donations
The SAS is currently in need of computers for the ASK Centre. Their website has a full list of items needed.
  2. Monetary Donations
Donations can be easily given on the SAS website. Since SAS is a registered charity, donations are tax-deductible.

The Vancouver Home + Design Show

Hardwood flooring at Vancouver Home and Design Show

Our highlight of the month of October was the Vancouver Home + Design Show. All members of our sales team had a chance to be at the booth and meet with new customers. Our featured supplier for the event was Creative at Home. We always receive great feedback from customers on their products at every event we show their products at. Their hand crafted wide plank hardwood makes a lasting impression.

Home shows and conferences are our favourite events (Aside from hockey games. But those aren’t flooring related!). Our plans for November, include exhibiting at the BC Non Profit Housing Association Conference.
Know of a home show or industry conference you think we should be at? Tell us about it!

MIRA Summer Golf Tournaments

When we found out that the BCAOMA Golf Tournament and Easy Care Restoration’s Lee Dobbs Charity Golf Tournament were on the same day this year, the decision was obvious. Let’s be at both. We sponsored a hole at both events, and sent half of our team off to University Golf Course for the BCAOMA Tournament and the other half to Morgan Creek for the Easy Care Tournament.

To keep things fun, we had a contest where participants had the opportunity to putt on new surfaces: carpet and hardwood. With it’s obstacles and turns, the MIRA Carpet Putt challenge was no easy feat. Congratulations to the winning teams at both tournaments who won a bottle of wine from Neck of the Woods Winery for each member of their team!

The team had a wonderful time at the tournaments meeting many great people. Thanks to BCAOMA and Easy Care Restoration for putting on amazing tournaments. We hope to see everyone again next year!
