In The Community – CIBC Run for the Cure

MIRA Floors is dedicated to giving back to the communities we live and do business in. Our three part community involvement strategy focuses on impacting others in addition to our day-to-day customers.

CIBC Run for the Cure
During September and October, our focus is raising awareness and money for breast cancer research. We are excited to participate in the CIBC Run for the Cure on September 30th in Abbotsford. The MIRA team is proud to be raising funds to help the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation achieve its vision of creating a future without breast cancer.

October marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To show our continued commitment to the cause we will be matching all donations made, up to one percent of October sales. Fundraising will continue after the run, into the month of October.

How to Donate
Donating is easy! Click here to visit the MIRA Floors Run for the Cure donation page.

All donations over $20 will be issued a tax receipt. We thank you in advance for supporting the MIRA Floors team and breast cancer research. Every donation counts.

Future Events
Each year MIRA takes part in a non-profit flooring project. Our most recent project was for Sereena’s House, a women’s shelter in downtown Vancouver. We provided flooring as part of a renovation makeover that revitalized the common areas in the shelter. This fall, we look forward to sharing with you another non-profit flooring project we will be starting soon.

Another MIRA Breakfast

At MIRA, the morning is often our busiest and most important time of day. The installers are in and out of the office, picking up material and preparing for the day. Our salespeople are just starting their day of site visits and meetings. With most people already in the office, breakfast is the perfect meal to bring together the whole MIRA team.

We have already held a few MIRA breakfasts this year and the food does not disappoint. At our last breakfast, our amazing in house chef Jennifer managed to put together a gourmet eggs benedict meal that she cooked over a barbecue! For this morning’s breakfast, we took the opportunity to recognize the hard work of all members of our team. Awards were given out to installers and salespeople whose jobs had the highest net promoter scores (NPS).

Thank you to Jennifer coming in to cook another amazing breakfast and letting us spend time with her new baby boy! We can’t wait for you to come back from maternity leave and make this a monthly event!

3 Popular Styles in Window Coverings

I am currently in the process of renovating my house and we just finished the flooring. Now the beautiful new carpet we had installed makes the window coverings look even more outdated by comparison! Imagine 70’s style yellow fabric vertical shades that clash with the modern look of the new carpet (I picked More is More by Shaw). To finish bringing this space into the 21st century, it’s time to add some new window coverings. Protecting my flooring from UV rays is a big concern for me so I spoke with Val Myern from Shade-o-matic about the popular styles that will protect my floors.

Roller Shade blinds

1. Roller Shades
Rollers (pictured above) are the most popular product on the market today. Fabric options are available that will allow you to enjoy your view and protect your flooring. Semi-opaque and black out options are included in the wide variety of fabric to choose from.

Shadow Magic horizontal blinds

2. Shadow Magic Blinds
This brand from Shade-o-matic is popular among customers for its seamless beaty. It lets soft light into the room while keeping out 86% of the UV rays that can discolour your flooring. You can even see through these blinds. The fabrics used for Shadow Magic blinds are anti static, dust and stain resistant.

3. Cellular Shades
These shades are dual purpose – they are an energy efficient choice and they protect your floors from harmful UV rays. Cellular shades can provide up to 99% blockage from harmful UV rays. They keep the cold and heat out and reduce the force needed from air-conditioning units and furnaces.

Our article in Design Quarterly sheds some light some light on this popular choice for durable flooring. In the article, Tim Craik, general manager of the Go Resilient Canada, shares his thoughts on the “renaissance of sorts” that is “underway in the vinyl flooring industry, with the emergence of luxury vinyl tiles and planks as the new “go to” product for both professionals and consumers.” Take a read on the Design Quarterly Magazine site.
